Autumn in the Park

Great reflection of the past entwined with the present–nice layouts and presentation of information

— Illinois Press Association Judges

Palos Park was celebrating their centennial in 2014 all year-long.  The Reporter chose to honor it with the “Autumn in the Park” special section. Typically this section was just a 2-4 page broadsheet spread, but due to celebration it was changed up to a 16 page tabloid.

The publication was filled with current stories highlighting the new additions and changes to the town, balanced with archival stories and articles about the town’s history.  Filler and graphical elements were used from the town’s official logos.

This project was a joint effort by Kari Nelson and I while employed at The Regional Publishing Corp.

This publication was later submitted to the Illinois Press Association in the Best Community Focus Special Section Competition.  The section  took 1st place in the 2014 Division G competition. Contest entries and winner listings can be found here: IllinoisPress.org
