Usually all city covers are completely singular and individually done. For 2011, I decided to try to unify all the covers under a central design theme. Some worked better than others, but the over look was fun to try. My favorite parts about these pieces as the ability to make some of the photographs break out of the line work of the circles, and others is actually using some part of the photo to lead into the rest, like the main photo for the Hickory Hills Street Fair: The little boy is pointing, and it works to make your eye follow to the smaller photos in the smaller circles in that area.
Using the works of Alphonse Mucha’s Art Nouveau prints as an inspiration, each cover was created with a mix of Photoshop and Illustrator elements. Photography was provided by the journalists and photographers of the 2010 city festivals to show some of the past highlights and key moments of each festival. Other images were either PR images provided to highlight the headliner entertainment, or specific city or organizational logos.
Each city festival was covered by either of The Regional News and The Reporter newspapers.
